Das Pop - The Game

I think I stumbled upon a psychedelic music video. The song played by Das Pop is interesting, has a fresh vibe to it and cool lyrics. Can't say a lot about the video, except that is pretty much mindfuck. Enjoy!

Batman on a budget

You are the type of person that grew up with comic books and cartoons about superheroes. You dream of the hole concept of being a hero, stopping crime and evil doers. You want the fame, the glory and the reputation. You decide to be like Batman because he is better than the rest of them because he rides a motorcycle, occasionally. You wake up and realize that you are your average Joe and a dream like that is.. just a dream. You can get discouraged and throw away this noble quest or you can think on a smaller scale those big dreams. Forget about Alfred, the Batcave, the Batmobile, the suit full of gizmos or even that motorcycles with huge tyres. Try to think on a budget and check out this motorcycles that could easily replace the original one, keeping the bad-ass factor and emproving Batmans overall style.

Our first runner up is a Triumph Speed Triple

And the second option comes in the shape of this Ducati NCR M16

Deliveryman in hell's traffic

It's a known fact that riding on public roads is more dangerous than riding on a circuit or dirt track. If you crash with your motorcycle in a controlled environment you have the benefit of not encountering a bus, a car or a utility pole as you skid along to a stop. On a circuit you usually ride along people who know what they are doing and pay attention to the road and to others. On public roads people often get distracted by the phone, the radio, the scenery or just daily shit that's on their mind.
Here is a clip with two riders, one of them, Karlo Maxwell, is a deliveryman in Sao Paolo (insane traffic) and the other one is FMX superstar Robbie Maddison. Both of them can brag with a impressive number of injuries.

Motorcycle Movies Review 1

I, like so many others, enjoy a good movie especially when it tells a story that manages to get your attention. When I watch a movie that is related to motorcycles I tend to be more judgemental because I feel like this is my area of expertise in some way. So, without further ado, here are some short and personal reviews regardind the motorcycle movies that I've seen so far.
The World's Fastest Indian is without a doubt one of my all time favorite. I have a previous post here about it. Anthony Hopkins plays Burt Monroe, a man with a dream that takes him to the other side of the world. I could watch it over and over again and never get bored.
The movie Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage had potential because the story involves the eternal fight between good and evil. It has deamons, cute chicks (Eva Mendes) and motorcycles, but lacks something. I've watched it once (because of the trailer) and to be honest I am not very keen on seeing it again. The Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is going to be relesead in 2012 and because it has a smaller budget than the first one (jusy 75 million dollars for the second part, rather than 110 million for the first part), I guess there were others who share my "enthusiasm" for this movie.
In the next review I am going to talk about Torque, Biker Boyz and The Motorcycle Diaries.

Interesting perspective

Why are there more organizations that fight against fur coats rather than leather jackets?
Because it's easiers to harass a bunch of rich women than a motorcycle gang.

Happy B-Day 2 millionth BMW

BMW is a motorcycle brand with a lot of history and heritage. The bikes were always brilliant from a technical point of view and that translated in a unique style. With a lot iconic motorcycles in it's portfolio, BMW deserves the fame and raspect of the two wheel comunity.

What motorcycle ?

If you tipe in the Google search engine "What motorcycle" you will get this suggestions.
I don't know about the motorcycle in the movie Fast Five but I have some thoughts of my own for those who search the motorcycle that suit's them the best.

There are a lot of sayings about the moment when you buy a motorcycle, some say that "you don't choose your motorcycle, the motorcycle chooses you" or "you should your motorcycle by heart and not by technical details" or other corny lines.

First of all it's decide, you like/love motorcycles and the next step is to buy one. From my point of view it's very important to know how and where you intend to ride it because there are a lot of different categories of motorcycles and each of them are available in different engine.

You should consider your body size because in some cases you will not be able to touch the ground with your feet when sitting on the bike.

The place where you intend to ride it most frequently has a major role. A big touring bike is difficult to maneuver in the city but feels great on the open road. If you plan to ride on some unpaved rodes, forget about a sportbike because you will break your back and teeath on it. Search for a allrounder bike if you don't know from the start what kind of riding suit's you and after a couple of months or years you can change it with something more apropiate for you.

Another important part is the maintenance and initial price of the motorcycle. Don't forget the riding gear that will save your ass when you tend to be over coky and xoxo the road. Find out the fuel consumption, the price of usual parts like filters, oil, chain and sprocket kit, tyres, brakes, etc.

After you decide what motorcycle will make you feel like a God, start searching for reviews of that particular model. Ask specialized forums about the "normal" problems for that bike and what you should be carefull at when buiyng one. Check if you can find the parts that tend to break at a certain mileage and how much they cost to replace (price of the part and the mechanic that will change it).

When you go to see a motorcycle, be calm and don't go over excited, if you hurry now you can regret later. Check the bike for suspicios bumps and bruises, ask about the way it was ridden, how many owners did it have in the past, why it is for sale, and ask the owner if he will alow you to take the motorcycle to a mechanic for a brief check.

And yes, in the end, good old fashion luck is always a plus.

Back in my days..

Grandpa - We use to ride our motorcycles not dance with them and film it.
Nephew - What are you talking about? We don't dance with them.
Grandpa - Sure you do, you call it stunting.
Nephew - So what's wrong with that?
Grandpa - It's just not appropriate.
Nephew - Ohh really?

Homer Simpson's riding adventure

I am without a doubt a huge fan of The Simpsons and I remember a special episode where Homer discovers the thrill of motorcycles. After he wins a '55 Harley and learns how to ride it, Homer starts his own motorcycle club, Hell's Satans. What happens after? well, you better check it out for yourself.

Easter Bunny's ride

From the series "if [insert fictional or real character here] would have been a motorcycle enthusiast, this is what he would ride", I think I've discovered the Easter Bunny's motorcycle (more like scooter but you know what I mean).

Where demons go wild

There is a place under the sun where speed demons belong, a flat and salty area on the map that has a special place in the history books, the Bonneville Salt Flats. It's a corner in the world where people have the opportunity to go faster than anywhere else, fueled by their dreams, goals and passion. "The Worlds Fastest Indian" is much more than a movie about motorcycles (as if that wasn't enough) and breaking the land-speed record. The movie tells the story of a man who spent much of his life pursuing his dream, managing in the end to achieve his goal. I know the movie has a couple of years under it's wheels but this is without a doubt one of my favorite movies and it deserves a post. Hat off to Anthony Hopkins.

Exhaust porn

Filth (as in vulgarity or obscenity) that I like.

Honda Cyclone

To build yourself a name in the Cafe Racer industry you need to have more than a solid experience in fabricating custom parts, a original vision and some knowledge regarding the kustom kulture is required. Steve Carpenter is a perfect example because he is known as one of the best cafe racer builders and his way of including a lot of details in his projects, make the motorcycles more special and desired. One of my favorite motorcycles built by "Carpy".

Motorcycling in life

I don't want to be all sentimental here but for me motorcycles are much more than intricate metal puzzles that make noise and burn gas. I see in motorcycles a way to taste the world by exploring the wind, earth and all the elements while being accompanied by the four stroke (or two stroke) music from your bike. Life is all about the roads you take and how you manage the junctions of destiny and motorcycles for those who understand what theire all about, turn out to be the great companions. Watch the next clip and you will understand what it's all about. Motorcycling, just ain't notking like it.

Comedy and Ducati 1098

Alonzo Bodden is a comedian that has a pretty good taste in motorcycles. Why? Because he rides this:

John Travolta and Johnny Knoxville in motorcycle commercials

We know that a lot of Hollywood stars have a soft spot for motorcycles but a few have stared in a commercial so far.

Respect to the Patriot Guard Riders

I said in a couple of articles that I admire the whole concept of brotherhood that is specific to motorcycle clubs and has it's roots in the army. We all know how most of the motorcycle clubs started back in the days, men that arrived home from war in one piece were not too fond of the civil life style and wanted some adrenaline rush. Motorcycles were the solution because they involved the ideea of freedom, brotherhood, living on the edge in some ways and not having to live in the same place.
I saw this clip a couple of months ago and I loved it because you can see the kind and helpful side of bikers. You can see how true patriots look like and how one sad event can trigger emotions, both negative and positive, from one nation.

Brazil FMX Highlights - Red Bull X-Fighters 2011

Congratulations to Nate Adams, the winner of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2011 (Brazil).

I made a x-ray a couple of days ago

And it came out like this. Looking good that is.

Julien Dupont

I am sure that if you are a motorcycle enthusiast like me you already heard about Julien Dupont and if his name doesn't ring a bell then you've been missing out on some basic things. Anyway, we're talking about one of the Gods of Trial Motorcycling, a man who promoted this form of riding in a manner like no other. He started a great series called Ride the World where he would explore the urban landscape on his Gas Gas trial bike. The footage is pure awesomeness and the editing makes it one of the best motorcycle clip series ever.

Le Touquet Enduropale

Because I wanted to continue with the enduro events after saying a couple of things about Red Bull Romaniacs, I managed to find a great blank & white clip, made by Black Gun Films, about a type of race that originated in France. Le Touquet takes place on a beach and it's became a tradition since 1975 when the first event was planned. It consists of different chicanes and other man made obstacles that add more difficulty because, as you know, riding in sand is a pice of cake.

Red Bull Romaniacs 2011 is near

Acknowledged as one of the world's toughest hard enduro rally event's, the Red Bull Romaniacs has gathered in the past a lot of famous riders like Cyril Despres, Graham Jarvis, Christian Pfeiffer and even the guys from Nitro Circus. It will take place in June (16-20) and it's going to do some damage.

Here are some ride reports made by Red Bull from the 2010 edition to make a impression and see some hard core but also marvelous enduro. HD FTW.

The oldies but goldes need love

I love vintage motorcycles because most of them symbolize a different era, they are like time machines that take you back in the days when manufacturing them was much more than a job, it was a way of life for those willing to combine art with raw mechanics. To see a piece of history like this, cruising in the urban jungle or in the contryside, is like a glimps of the industrial era thru a narrow window. Yes, I prefer them restored to their former glory but a lil' bit of customizing can work good if it's done with taste.

The art of building a stunt bike

Remember when I said that Icon is a company that stands behind the motorcycle community? Well this is another example where Icon gets involved in the stunt riding scene, supporting Ernie Vigil. Being one of the "Icon Riders", a group that includes Jason Britton, Kane Friesen, Ethan Barkley and many more, Ernie had to compete with a bike that was worthy of the Icon heritage and could rise to the challenge. This clip, that you're going to watch in HD (as recommended), illustrates the craftsmanship required in building a top stunt motorcycle.

Karl Ruprecht Kroenen's motorcycle

Remember the villain character Karl Ruprecht Kroenen from the movie Hell Boy? Well, after I saw this motorcycle callled War Crimes, I though that if Kroenen would have been a motorcycle enthusiast, this is what he would ride.

The photos were made by Chad DeRosa.

Gentleman sportbike?

I would have to disapprove that because the rider makes the bike. You can ride like a gentleman a Yamaha R1, a Husqvarna SM 630, a KTM DUKE 990 or a Triumph Speed Triple but you can ride like a bad ass mother fucker hooligan punk a Honda CBR 125, a Honda Deauville or a Yamaha YBR 250. Well, as you can see i disagree with categorizing motorcycles by this but the guys in the next clip don't, so they compare three popular and aparently gentleman's sportbikes. Without further ado the Kawasaki Z1000SX vs. Suzuki GSX 1250FA vs. Yamaha FZ1.

Ducati Streetfighter vs. 2008 Benelli TnT 1130

Two very exotic motorcycles get tested by the good folks from Motorcycle.com and the overall conclusions are interesting. See the italian streetfighters in HD and tell me what is your favorite.

Motorcycle Gymkhana FTW

I am a huge fan of motorcycle gymkhana and you will see in the future more videos on this subject. I admire gymkhana as a sport because it enhances your riding skills on the track and in real life. By knowing that well your motorcycle in a controlled environment where you can focus strictly on things like cornering, breaking, maneuvering in tight spaces and body position, you can make a huge difference regarding your day to day riding habbits. The situations when you panic and tend to make a error will decrease significantly therefor, better riding experience.
For now, a short introduction in the accurate world of Gymkhana.

Bandit following you into the night

Your going home, it's dark and you hear suspicious noises in the alley. You start to walk faster to get home and suddenly BAM, this stares you down.

Piss your pants scary? not really. But still cool.

Green blood

Now this is what happens when you put the blood of a race bike like the Kawasaki ZX-10R in a motorcycle based on a naked (Z 1000), you get the Kawasaki Z1000SX. Not bad at all.

A Ducati named Lidia goes round the world

"Paolo Pirozzi, President of the Ducati Dreams Club in Naples, undertook a solo round-the-world tour on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 Touring Edition that he affectionately named Lidia. Paolo's is calling his journey the “Tour of the World in 80 DOC” (Desmo Owners Club) and he is planning to visit as many of the Ducati DOC’s as possible.

Paolo’s journey has taken him through Russia, China, Japan, USA, Mexico and South America and he is scheduled to return to Naples in May 2011"

Samba and Red Bull X-Fighters

Brazil is hosting another Red Bull X-Fighters event, this time they will perform in the capital, Brasilia.

Know them? The Icon Motorcycles

Icon is one my favorite motorcycles related companies because they get involved in more than the riding gear that they sell. With different projects like Limiter and Icon Riders, they support the motorcycle community and have a growing fan base. If you dont know, in their spare time, Icon pimps out motorcycles, bringing them closer to the Icon vision and life style. Check it out.

Cafe Cowboy

Found this awesome short film about Dustin Kott on how his career started. You can see the ideas that stand behind his custom motorcycles and the way his passion evolved. In my book, for bringing back to life old japonese bikes and giving them a British flavor, the man deserves some recognition.

Urban Legend

Pretty nice commercial from Kawasaki, the voice of the little girl reminds me of half a dozen horror movies but still, the clip is briliant edited.
